De drukste luchthavens ter wereld werden lange tijd gedomineerd door Amerikaanse vliegvelden met enkele Europese vliegvelden. Er vindt echter een verschuiving plaats waarbij Aziatische vliegvelden sneller groeien dan die in de westerse wereld. Beijing heeft zich al in de top weten te scharen, en naar verwachting volgen er meer in de toekomst.
